The smell of freshly baked cupcakes wafted from the kitchen. I frantically hung up blue and red streamers as my friends taped Romney and Obama campaign signs around the commons. It was election night at Will Rice College.
I attended and helped set up a presidential election results watching party in the Will Rice commons (put on by our cultural committee). The commons were packed with students eager to find out the results. The atmosphere was able to remain respectful and engaging throughout the night. Students with a variety of different political views sat at the same table, tackling problem sets while having friendly chats regarding the election. This night is a great example of the amazing, world conscious and diverse Rice student population. It highlights one of my favorite things about Rice, the plethora of opportunities for interesting conversations and bonding that the residential college system allows.
